Make a list of your interests and share it with each other

In My Neighborhood
- Participate in a community service activity together
- Go to the park
- Play on the playground
- Take a walk and learn the neighborhood, get back and draw a map
- Make a lemonade or hot cocoa stand - learn basic business principles
- Try to find seven different types of trees, then try to identify them all
- Teach your Little about the different parts of a car.
- Go Swimming

- Attend an auction (check the local newspapers for times and locations)
- Visit a travel agent and pick up brochure and information. Imagine a fantasy vacation
- Save pennies in a special piggy bank to go on this said vacation
Outdoors
- Fly kites on a windy day
- Have a picnic, each of you bring your favorite foods
- Play frisbee
- Play a sport
- Build and paint a birdhouse
- Go fishing
- Go hiking at the Shenandoah National Park
- Take a ride on the Staunton Trolley
- Visit the Blue Ridge Parkway
- Visit Natural Bridge
- Sit and watch the clouds go by on a bright summer day
- Get some soap and a bucket and wash the car together - if you and your Little are really ambitious, plan a Big/Little car wash!
- Bring two disposable cameras to your favorite places and take photos. Compare the different perspectives
- Go horseback riding
- Participate in a fun run or walk for a good cause
- Go on a "Big" or "Little" hunt and collect all things with the words "Big" or "Little" in them
- Go for a bike ride or rollerblade together
- Make a bug cage and catch bugs together
- Plant flowers together
- Stop and smell the roses
- Plant a tree on your Little's birthday
- Take a walk together and collect interesting leaves, rocks, etc.
- Go on a camera scavenger hunt. Make a list of things you want a picture of before going

Visit all types of museums: art, science, nature, etc.
Bring a magazine, book or newspaper article and discuss the content
Teach your Little to play cards
Assemble a model airplane or bookcase
Take an arts and crafts class at Michael's
Read and write poetry
write a story or poem together (we will even publish it in our newsletter)
Do research on colleges and help your Little fill out an application
Tour a college campus
Visit a hospital and look at the babies in the nursery
Do something together for an elderly person
Look through a clothing catalog and ask what he/she likes/dislikes
Explain what is becoming of a young lady/gentleman and what is not
Make something together for his/her mother or father
Teach your Little about money, budgeting, finances
Learn CPR together

Rent a video tape and learn Yoga together
Visit a coffe shop and sip hot chocolate while playing chess, checkers or backgammon
Volunteer together for the Salvation Army, Meals on Wheels or the Special Olympics

Visit a music store and learn about different types of instruments
Discover what things around you are magnetic- Teach your little to cook

- Tour the local radio station (Kris at WKDW might even put you on air)

Inspirational Days
Make greeting, get well or holiday cards to give to other people
Look for a four-leaf clover
Go for long walks and talk about what you encounter along the way
Sit and listen to the sounds of nature
Go to a church/synagogue/mosque together
Talk to each other about concerns, feelings and values
Creat a Big and Little Pact with meaningful words you both choose then sign and post in a place where you can see it
Write to the President of the United States and ask for a photo: you will recieve a photo and an informational packet
Learn about your local, state, and national government and who your representatives are
laugh together
Talk about your Little's dreams/ what they want to do when they grow up
Look up "this day in history" and see what neat things occurred
Celebrate your Little's half-birthday
Learn simple magic tricks
Make a special piggy bank to save for special trips like Busch Gardens, Kings Dominion, etc
Rainy Days

Make a calendar of big events for his/her year

Role play meeting unfamiliar people so that he/she will feel comfortable
Use a bookd of names to find the meaning of his/her name and the names of other people you both know
Squeeze fresh orange juice
Carve a pumpkin and roast the seeds in the oven

Have a carpet picnic on the living room floor and watch a movie

Discuss personal hygeine, hairstyles, or how to apply makeup
Start a collection: rocks, stamps, trinkets, etc.
Teach the child how to play a musical instrument or learn one together
Explain your job to your Little, if possible take them to work with you
Create greeting cards and mail them out to your family,friends, and loved ones
Write letters to friends
Ask your caseworker to find you another match in another city/state: become their pen pals.
Help Little study a driver's handbook to obtain their learner's license
Correspond with a pen pal in another state or country
Make a website together
Eat lunch with your Little at their school
Make dinner for your Little's parent and surprise him/her
Make dinner together and invite someone over to try it
Buy ten shares of stock in an inexpensive company that he/she will recognize and watch your Little make/lose money
Use a magnifying glass to examine all kinds of little things
